Journey Discovering the Catholic Cultural Space of Coastal Giao Ninh

Update: 30/06/2026
Giao Ninh is a land deeply imbued with Catholic culture, boasting a long history of formation and development. The cultural and religious values preserved through many generations have contributed to creating a distinct identity for this coastal region, while also becoming an important resource for developing local cultural-spiritual tourism.

As part of the orientation for developing marine tourism in a green, safe, and sustainable direction, Giao Ninh is gradually harnessing its Catholic cultural values to build distinctive tourism products. According to the marine tourism development plan for the 2026–2030 period, the locality has identified cultural-religious-heritage tourism as one of three key tourism product groups, linked with marine tourism and experiential tourism to diversify products and enhance the destination's appeal.

During the 2026–2027 period, the locality is focusing on researching and building the brand "Giao Ninh Marine Tourism – A Green, Safe, Quality, and Friendly Destination," while also forming tour routes connecting the Giao Ninh Tourist Area, the Countryside Museum, and the Thuc Hoa Parish Church. This is considered an important foundation for gradually promoting local cultural values and creating unique experiences for visitors.

The Countryside Museum is one of the first private museums in Vietnam, built and founded in 2011 in Binh Di Village, Giao Ninh Commune, Ninh Binh Province. The museum currently preserves thousands of artifacts related to the daily life, labor and production, and traditional culinary culture of residents of the Northern Delta region, across 3 main exhibition areas. The museum space vividly recreates images of the old Vietnamese countryside, contributing to the preservation and introduction of distinctive folk cultural values to visitors.

Meanwhile, Thuc Hoa Parish Church is a notable religious architectural work of the locality, built in 1914. It is 72 meters long and stands out with two 33-meter-high bell towers, showcasing a harmonious blend of Western Gothic style with Eastern cultural elements. Connecting these destinations with the Giao Ninh Tourist Area not only enriches tourism products but also allows visitors to simultaneously experience the distinctive ecological, cultural, and spiritual values of the Giao Ninh region.

The preservation and promotion of the value of religious structures, in connection with the development of community tourism, craft village tourism, and marine tourism, will continue to be strengthened. This is not only a solution that helps preserve traditional cultural values but also opens up opportunities for economic development, improving local residents' living standards, and building Giao Ninh's image as a destination rich in identity within Ninh Binh Province's coastal tourism landscape.
