Nguyen Cong Tru Temple Festival

Update: 15/06/2023
Nguyen Cong Tru Temple Festival is the biggest festival of residents of the new coastal district of Kim Son, Ninh Binh province. The festival is held annually from 14 to 16 November of the lunar calendar to remember the merits and commemorate the death of officer in charge of farms Nguyen Cong Tru - who recruited people to reclaim land from the sea to establish Kim Son district (golden mountain) of Ninh Binh and Tien Hai (silver sea) of Thai Binh.

Nguyen Cong Tru Temple is located on Highway 10, 2km from Phat Diem town, in Quang Thien commune, Kim Son.

Temples of Nguyen Cong Tru in Ninh Binh, Thai Binh and Ha Tinh all have in common that they were built by the people while he was still alive, but it was not until the early years of the 21st century that his statue was completed and brought to 3 temples. All 3 temples are recognized as national historical sites.

Since Nguyen Cong Tru's death, every year on the 14th day of the 11th lunar month, people hold a festival at the temple for 3 days, including two main parts: the ceremony and the festival.

Ceremony part: Offering incense at Nguyen Cong Tru temple in Quang Thien commune, Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province. The unique thing is that the festival has the participation of both infidels and religious people with different rituals.

The festival part: is the part that organizes the boat racing game on the Vac tributary, a feature of the residents' festival in the coastal plain. The festival also includes a singing contest for Ca Tru, a folk song very much related to Nguyen Cong Tru.

Nguyen Cong Tru Temple Festival is a unique activity that both contributes to preserving the cultural identity of the nation, enriching the spiritual life of the people, and at the same time educating good morals about drinking water and remembering the source for officer in charge of farms Nguyen Cong Tru.
