Ninh Binh overview

Ninh Binh located at the southernmost point of Northern Delta, is 90 km far from Hanoi Capital to the South, connecting three regions including Northwest, Red River Delta and North Central Coast. The province is bordered by Ha Nam province to the North, Nam Dinh province to the East, East Sea to the Southeast and Hoa Binh and Thanh Hoa provinces to the Southwest. The province has an area of 21,386km and population of around 952,000 people.

Ninh Binh is famous for its micellaneous tourism resources with various cultural and historical relics, renowned landscapes and naturally ecological environment with high value. Ninh Binh possesses varied topography with mountains, deltas and coastal areas, presenting all characteristics of the country of Vietnam in much smaller scale. With three-fourths of area of mountains, diverse karst topography and varied system of flora and fauna, the province possesses various tourist attractions with beautiful and appealing sceneries, several of which are Tam Coc-Bich Dong, Cuc Phuong National

Park, Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve, Yen Thang Lake Ecotourism Site, Dong Thai Lake, Thung Nham Bird Garden, Sunlight Valley, Galaxy Grotto, Kim Son coastal area, mineral hot springs, etc., especially Trang An Lanscape Complex which was recognized as a Natural and Cultural World Heritage in 2014 by UNESCO, the first mixed heritage of Viet Nam and Southeast Asia. Not only famous for its beautiful sceneries, Ninh Binh is also a land of deep-rooted historical and cultural tradition with 1,499 historical relics, including 346 classified relics.

The province is a sacred land previously being capital city of the first centralized feudal government of Vietnam lasting 42 years (from 968-1010) associated with three dynasties including Dinh, Early Le and beginning of Ly dynasty. At present, Ninh Binh is blessed with invaluable historic and cultural heritages - priceless asset resources of which quintessential ones are Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, Phat Diem Cathedral, Bich Dong Pagoda, Bai Dinh Pagoda, Duc Thanh Nguyen Temple, Thai Vi Temple, etc. In addition to its cultural & historical heritages, Ninh Binh also owns renowned intangible cultural heritages such as prose and verse, festivals, Cheo, Hat Van, Hat Xam (Vietnam traditional opera) and cuisine culture, etc.

Ninh Binh has up to 260 festivals, many of which are well known by the national and foreign tourists including: Hoa Lu Festival (recognized as a National intangible heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), Bai Đinh Pagoda Festival, Trang An Festival, Thai Vi Temple Festival, etc. The land is also the home of Hat Xam, Hat Cheo - several art of singing and a number of traditional villages such as: Ninh Van stone carving, Bo Bat pottery, Van Lam lace embroidery, Kim Son sedge mat, etc. Long-standing cultural customs and traditions offer Ninh Binh special attraction and uniqueness in cuisine culture with a number of well known dishes such as: Goat meat, fried rice, Kim Son wine, Yen Mac fermented pork roll, Gia Vien shrimp sauce, Kim Son Moc Vermicelli Soup, etc. Beautiful and famous landscapes, long-standing cultural and historical relics and delicious dishes of this sacred land of extraordinary people definitely make unforgettable impression on tourists.
