The Thai Vi Temple Festival has long been recognized as a distinctive spiritual and cultural destination, attracting visitors from across the country. In 2026, the festival will take place from April 30 to May 1 (corresponding to the 14th–15th days of the third lunar month) at Thai Vi Temple, Nam Hoa Lu Ward, Ninh Binh. This is not only an occasion to commemorate the merits of the ancestors but also an opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of a traditional festival rich in national identity.

Thai Vi Temple is a national historical and cultural relic within the Trang An Landscape Complex, closely associated with the ancient capital of Hoa Lu. The temple is dedicated to the kings of the Tran Dynasty, especially those who established the Vu Lam royal retreat and led the resistance against the Mongol invasions. To honor their great contributions, local people built the temple, long known as Thai Vi Tu. In 1994, it was officially recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) as a national historical and cultural site, contributing to the preservation of the nation’s unique cultural and spiritual values.

A highlight of the festival is the solemn ceremonial procession featuring traditional palanquins. Dozens of processions from villages across the region create a sacred yet lively atmosphere, showcasing various types of palanquins such as bat cong, song hanh, and vong. Set against the majestic natural scenery of Tam Coc – Bich Dong, the procession vividly recreates a glorious chapter of national history, leaving a lasting impression on visitors.

In addition, the festive section is vibrant with a wide range of traditional cultural and sporting activities held at the temple grounds and Tam Coc boat pier. Visitors can participate in or enjoy folk games such as rice-cooking competitions, tug of war, co boi, swinging games, as well as traditional performances like cheo (Vietnamese traditional opera), dragon dances, and lion dances—rich in the cultural identity of the Red River Delta.

The Thai Vi Temple Festival is not only a cultural event but also a highlight in the journey of exploring the heritage land of Hoa Lu. Visitors will have the chance to immerse themselves in a sacred yet festive atmosphere, admire breathtaking natural landscapes, and experience the richness of traditional cultural values.

With its unique charm, the Thai Vi Temple Festival promises to be an unmissable destination in any journey to explore Ninh Binh. Here, visitors can fully appreciate the beauty of heritage, the depth of culture, and the warmth and hospitality of the local people.
