After more than one year of being released into the wild on Ngoc island in the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, a three-member Delacour's langur family (Trachypithecus delacouri) has a new baby.

A newborn baby always stuck with her mother.

The Delacour's langur baby was possibly born on October 24 and is estimated to weigh around 300 grammes. But its sex is unknown because the Delacour's langur mother seemed to shield her baby from the eyes of curious onlookers.

According to Tilo Nadler, a German expert from the Primate Specialist Group of IUCN, the birth of the first Delacour's langur baby is a positive signal for the biodiversity preservation in the Trang An ecotourism complex. It laid a foundation to establish a new Delcour's langur population in this area.

When these primates enter the age of 4 or 5, they could give birth to an offspring. Their pregnancy lasts for six months with one baby is born at a time.

Currently, there are approximately 300 Delacour's langurs in Vietnam. Ninh Binh province is home to the largest community of endangered Delacour's langurs in the country. Most of them, some 200 individuals, are living in Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve, while nearly 100 other Delacour's langurs are inhabiting in forests of neighbouring Ha Nam province.

Covering an area of two hectares in the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, Ngoc island is an ideal place for sustainably developing and preserving Delacour's langurs in the future.
